New protein functions in yeast chromosome VIII.
The analysis of the 269 open reading frames of yeast chromosome VIII by computational methods has yielded 24 new significant sequence similarities to proteins of known function. The resulting predicted functions include three particularly interesting cases of translation-associated proteins: peptidyl-tRNA hydrolase, a ribosome recycling factor homologue, and a protein similar to cytochrome b tr...
متن کاملMaedi - visna PALL
Rise in temperature is not observed in visna or maedi. The animals seem to be remarkably alert and the appetite remains unaffected throughout. The period between inoculation of infective visna material and the development of clinical signs varies from animal to animal even with a standard dose. Usually this period is very long and several months to several years may elapse before clinical signs...
متن کاملCHROMOSOME STUDIES OF IRANIAN MEMBERS OF TRIBE SOPHOREAE (FAMILY LEGUMINOSAE
The tribe Sophoreae sensu Polhill [9,10] is a large and diverse assemblage comprising the ancient and primitive ancestral stocks of Papilionoideae. The most frequent chromosome basic numbers in this tribe are x = 11 and x = 9 but chromosome numbers range from x = 8-14 are also known. In this study chromosome numbers and karyotype variation of Iranian members of tribe Sophoreae are reported. Ira...
متن کاملKaryotype and pattern of chromosome replication in Lagurus lagurus Pall (Cricetidae, Microtinae).
The potential value of chromosome characters in mammalian taxonomy has been limited by the inadequate knowledge of the chromosomes of various species listed by the systematists (Makino 1951). In recent years some cytologists have become interested in studying the karyotype of different mammalian species (Klinger 1963, Nadler 1965). In addition, the need for detailed knowledge about the karyotyp...
متن کاملFunctional selection for the centromere DNA from yeast chromosome VIII.
Centromeres are essential components of eucaryotic chromosomes. In budding yeast, up to now, 15 of the 16 centromere DNAs have been isolated. Here we report the functional isolation and characterization of CEN8, the last of the yeast centromeres missing. The centromere consensus sequence for the 16 chromosomes in this organism is presented.
